a place for community

in the mayan culture, names were given based on the day one was born. this name was a representation of the intention and energy of the tzolkin (one of their many, and one of the most sacred, calenders) day. there where three calendars, one for the east west direction, one for north south, and one that unifed them both. the latter has been forgotten in his-story, but first two have been passed down through different tribes, Maya Ki'che (or quiché in spanish), and the Yukatek Maya. The Maya Quiche use the True Long count, which keeps a record of each day. The Yukatek Maya use a calender based on a 365.25 Mayan HAAB calendar, which accurately recorded the solar year, in the same manner that our Gregorian Calendar does. Both calendars use the same 260 day-Tzolkin to express each day but use two different formulas to calculate which tzolkin day it is. they are named after the cardinal directions because the direction one is facing designates which calendar one is tuning into. this was an important part of creating community which is is free, independant, self-directed beings working together to meet common needs cooperatively

mayaspace's mainpage displays today's tones of intention and the energies through which they manifest. to the mayans, days and people were the same thing, therefore, while the descriptions may be describing personality traits of people born on that day, they are also describing the "personality" of today. currently, mayaSpace simply displays the current tone of intention and energy through which that intention manifests for both calendars. this is to help us understand the consciousness that may be affecting our decisions during each day down to which way we are facing.

ultimately, this site will allow users to add their friend's birthdays which will allow users to view their relationships through a matrix of community called the "harmonic arrangement" which can be used to understand why people are in one life based on how their energy compliments one's own energy. friends added to the site will also show up when today's energies or intentions resonates with one of their birthday's energies or intentions. historical events will eventually be added to the site which will allow users to see past events that occured on the same mayan day allowing us to recognize and appreciate the personality of each day.
